Pedro S. Aguilar, MD, FACS, FASCRSDr. Pedro Aguilar joined Central Ohio Colon and Rectal Center, Inc. in 1981. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the School of Medicine at the University of Yucatan in Mexico and moved to the United States of America to pursue surgical residencies at St. Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey and University of West Virginia, Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia, where he was also the Chief Surgical Resident. The Grant Medical Center Colon and Rectal Surgery fellowship residency brought Dr. Aguilar to Columbus, Ohio where he has remained to practice and even serve as this program’s director since 1991. In addition to his directorship duties, Dr. Aguilar serves on numerous hospital and medical committees, teaches family practice residents, and publishes or presents research in the area of colon and rectal surgery on a regular basis. Dr. Aguilar, as a board certified surgeon, maintains his status as a fellow with the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is also a member of various medical associations and societies, including several in Mexico. Dr. Aguilar currently serves patients at Grant Medical Center, Mount Carmel East Hospital, and St. Ann’s Hospital. Dr. Aguilar lives in the north Columbus area with his wife and enjoys spending time with his two grown children, traveling, and serving as a physician on medical mission teams. Kerner, MD, FACS, FASCRSAfter graduating from the University of Tampa, Dr. Bruce Kerner attended medical school at the University of Health Sciences at The Chicago Medical School in Illinois. Dr. Kerner did his surgical internship at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in New York, New York and completed his surgical residency at North Shore University Hospital at Cornell University Medical College in Manhasset, New York, where he was also the Chief Surgical Resident. After this residency, he pursued his colon and rectal surgical residency at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Kerner accepted a position at Central Ohio Colon and Rectal Center, Inc. in 1990, moving his wife and two children to Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Kerner has presented and published numerous research articles in the area of colon and rectal surgery, including serving as an associate editor for Diseases of the Colon and Rectum. He has also served in positions of leadership (President, Chairman, Assistant Director, etc.) of the Medical Staff at Mount Carmel East Hospital, Taylor Station Surgical Center, Grant Medical Center Section of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Mount Carmel East Department of Surgery, and Grant Medical Center Colon and Rectal Surgery Residency Program, to name a few. His memberships include numerous medical associations, surgical societies, and research organizations promoting colon and rectal health. Dr. Kerner has recently been featured in an interview on a local news station about genetic testing and colon cancer. He was also again honored as a Top Doctor by Columbus Monthly for the second year in a row. Dr. Kerner currently serves patients at Mount Carmel East Hospital and Grant Medical Center. Dr. Kerner lives in the east Columbus area with his wife, enjoys spending time with his two grown children, traveling, and playing golf in his free time. Return to the top. David R. Giammar, MD, FACS, FASCRSDr. David Giammar joined Central Ohio Colon and Rectal Center, Inc. in 2002 after completing his colon and rectal surgical residency at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio and his general surgical residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Giammar completed his joint undergraduate and medical degree at Kent State University and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Kent, Ohio. Dr. Giammar stays involved with the medical community by serving on numerous hospital committees, interviewing and teaching surgical residents in the Riverside Methodist Hospital and Grant Medical Center programs, and presenting research articles in the area of colon and rectal surgery. He is a board certified surgeon, an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a fellow in the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Dr. Giammar currently services patients at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Dublin Methodist Hospital, and Grant Medical Center. Dr. Giammar lives in the Columbus area with his wife and two children and enjoys spending time with his family, gardening, and running in marathons. Return to the top. Peter K. Lee, M.D.Dr. Peter Lee joined Central Ohio Colon and Rectal Center, Inc. in 2009 after completing his colon and rectal surgery residency at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He received his MD from Columbia University in New York after graduating with a bachelor of science in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Minnesota. It was his time in Minnesota that helped him decide to build his colorectal surgery practice in the Midwest, where we have winters and Big Ten football. Dr. Lee presented and published several articles on colorectal cancer and laparoscopic surgery. He has also been recognized for his teaching by his fellow residents, winning the Cassius Ellis Resident Teaching Award in 2008. He is involved with the colorectal surgery fellowship and clinic here in Columbus and serves on several hospital committees that focus on improving the quality of surgical care. Dr. Lee currently serves patients at Dublin Methodist Hospital, Riverside Methodist Hospital, and Grant Medical Center. Dr. Lee lives in the Dublin area and enjoys traveling. He also enjoys running and has completed several marathons, although, by his own admission, he is not as good as Dr. Giammar. Return to the top. Melinda K. Jack, M.D.After graduating from The Ohio State University, Dr. Melinda Jack attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. Dr. Jack did her surgical internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital located in Columbus, Ohio. She completed her surgical residency at The Ohio State University Medical Center and then Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where she was also the Chief Surgical Resident. After this residency, she pursued her Colon and Rectal Surgery fellowship at Grant Medical Center, in partnership with Mount Carmel East Hospital and The Ohio State University Medical Center. Dr. Jack accepted a position at Central Ohio Colon and Rectal Center, Inc. in 2010. Dr. Jack is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, organizations dedicated to advancing and promoting the science and practice of the treatment of patients with diseases and disorders, namely affecting the colon, rectum, and anus. Dr. Jack currently serves patients at St. Ann’s Hospital, Mount Carmel East Hospital, and Grant Medical Center. Dr. Jack lives in the Powell area with her husband, daughter, and their three dogs. She enjoys gardening, jogging, and playing outside with the dogs. She also enjoys watching the Buckeyes and the Blue Jackets. Return to the top. Angela M. Whitt, ESQ.Angela Whitt joined Central Ohio Colon and Rectal Center, Inc. in 2007 and serves as practice administrator and in-house counsel for the group. Angela completed her Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University in Psychology and her Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School, both in Columbus, Ohio. While at Capital University Law School, Angela was involved with various student organizations including the Corporate Business Law Association. She obtained her Pro Bono Certification for providing over 50 hours of tax assistance in the law school’s clinic through the Internal Revenue Services’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Angela also was named to the Dean’s List and as a quarter-finalist for the First Year Moot Court Competition as well as published two articles while an Associate Editor of The Reserve, a publication of the Corporate Business Law Association. Angela is a member of the Ohio State Medical Association, the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association, and the Healthcare Division of the American Bar Association. She was nominated for the 2008 Health Care Heroes Award for her work with local physicians and volunteers her time as a healthcare attorney mentoring law students interested in non-traditional legal employment post-graduation. Angela also is a member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), an association focused on improving medical group professionals. Angela lives in the Deer Creek State Park area with her husband and son. She enjoys spending time reading, traveling, and doing outdoor activities with her family. Return to the top.
